APRIL: 2021-2022 Lawrenceville Alumni-Student Mentorship Program are Open!

Hi guys!
Per my Smeeting announcement, applications for the 2021-2022 Lawrenceville Student Alumni Program are open!
The Lawrenceville Student Alumni Program connects current students to experienced Lawrenceville alumni leaders. Via one-on-one coaching and experience sharing, mentors support their mentees’ personal and leadership development. Through this program, current students can benefit from mentorship from the real world, and alumni can give back in a meaningful way. The program matches interested students with mentors based on motivation and commitment, academic and career interests, and alumni resource availability.
Although facilitated by Women in Business @ Lawrenceville, this is an all-school offering and we encourage all interested students to apply. This program will be open to next year's sophomores, juniors, and seniors (in the 2021-22 school year).
Timeline
May 1 Application Deadline
May 1-7 Interviews
Mid-May Mentee Notification
The application is due on Saturday, May 1st, at 7PM EST.

MARCH: WIB@L Jeopardy

Hi WIB@L,
Mercedes Zobel de Ayala '22 and I are hosting Jeopardy this Sunday (March 28th) from 3:30-4:00 pm ET!
For those of you who aren't sure about the rules of the game, here's the version we'll be playing: we'll have a board filled with questions of varying difficulties. The harder questions will be worth more "money," ranging from $100-$400. For every question you and your team answer correctly, your team will earn the corresponding amount of money. At the end of play, the team with the most money wins.
Our clues are related to Women in Science, Women in Sports, Women in Business, and Women in Art.
This is a fun activity while most of us are in quarantine, and a great way to get to know female accomplishments across many fields. We're excited to see you there.

Best,
Emmy and Mercedes

The documentary is free on YouTube and linked to the flyer.

Book of the month
AUGUST: During this unprecedented time, leaders at all levels in all organizations, big and small, public and private, are being tested and show their true colors. Here I present to you, "Forged in Crisis: The Making of Five Courageous Leaders", a timely read featuring powerful stories and lessons from five great leaders in turbulent times, among them Abraham Lincoln and Rachel Carson.

The author: "Nancy Koehn is a historian at the Harvard Business School where she holds the James E. Robinson chair of Business Administration. She has coached leaders from many organizations and speaks frequently at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Aspen Ideas Festival, and the World Business Forum. She spent ten years writing Forged in Crisis, her first book aimed at a popular audience. Her research focuses on how leaders, past and present, craft lives of purpose, worth, and impact."
JULY: In this autobiography, Sotomayor describes the story of her precarious childhood, her recognition of a need for self-dependency, and her journey to becoming the first Hispanic and third woman appointed to the United States Supreme Court.
I've heard many great things about this one also, so I hope you join me in reading this amazing autobiography this month and continue to engage in important conversations on social and racial inequality.
JUNE: In solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, it's extremely important for us to pursue a deeper understanding of the mass incarceration that is in our criminal justice system. This novel depicts a Harvard trained young lawyer, Bryan Stevenson, who founded the Equal Justice Initiative. The novel depicts one of his first cases, Walter McMillian, who was given a death sentence for a crime he did not commit. He is one of the thousands of cases that are unfairly incarcerated simply for the color of their skin.
I hope with this month's pick, we can be part of the conversation to demand equality and in the reform of our broken criminal justice system.
MAY: Hope you and your family are doing well and staying safe. I'm here to announce WIB@L's four-part Book of the Month series! For each month, starting from May till August, WIB@L will be announcing one book for the month to read so we as a club can read and discuss via Zoom. Hopefully, by the time we do go back to school, we would be finishing four great books on business, leadership, and general female empowerment! Reading is a great way to pass time, and learn something new in the process as well.
So without further ado, the book of the month for May is...
